“Never trust a computer you can’t throw out a window.” – Steve Wozniak
Buying a computer is not only about the processor or the hard drive size. It is also about the monitor that is the way you interact with all those components. If you improve the interface you immediately improve your experience with any machine and that holds true for cars and any other gadget. Here are 5 good reasons you should pay the extra bucks for a big monitor:
1. Increase your productivity. Several studies in the past have shown that a larger monitor can result in significant increases in productivity. Whether you edit documents in Microsoft Word or are managing multiple applications at the same time (multitasking is just what modern computers are all about), a larger screen is giving you more real estate to work with. You can get more done in less time.
2. Make your computer a real multimedia/movie player. A larger monitor, at least 27′ is the absolute minimum if you want to use your computer to watch movies comfortably without getting tired from sitting too close to the monitor. We’ve all watched movies in the iPad or a good old 14′ laptop but it just does not feel the same. (more…)

#10: Full-time IT people are expensive and cost more than outsourcing
According to a 2008 Boston.com survey, the average cost of a network administrator in the Boston area (direct salary and benefits) with four to five years of experience is $109K per year. This does not include soft costs like office space, training, books/software/equipment, and required outside support agreements. Nor does it include the cost of a supervisor for this employee.
#9: Cost of turnover is high
Turnover in IT is high, and the cost of recruiting is significant. Once a company has learned to depend upon its internal IT staff, there is tremendous pressure to fill vacancies immediately– before the expertise walks out the door.
#8: Difficult to evaluate / risk of bad hire
Who is going to interview and hire the IT professional? After all, who has the technical skills in your organization to differentiate between the pretender and the real thing? Once again, the risk of hiring the wrong person becomes expensive. (more…)

In these days of ever increasing reliance on technology and gadgets many people have taken the choice to purchase a universal solar charger. With more people purchasing web connected devices, the need for keeping these devices powered is more important than ever.
Solar power works by converting the energy provided by the sun into electricity. Solar panels are made from photo-voltaic cells, these cells were first made by Bell laboratories in the early 1950′s. Briefly, photo-voltaic cells work by using the power of light itself. Light is mainly consisted of photons which create an electric imbalance within the photo-voltaic cells upon striking the surface. This electric imbalance then causing an electric current to flow within a circuit created in the device. This current flow can then be used to either power a device directly or, more commonly in the case of a solar charger, be used to charge a battery which can then be used to provide power to another device.
A good universal solar charger will be able to attach to a variety of devices. They connect either via the use of different tips for the devices or they can alternatively physically attach to the batteries which the device may contain. A good quality charger will also be able to fully charge the device using its internal battery. (more…)

Creativity is limitless. Agreed; but when it comes to designing a website for an online business, there are certain ground rules to be followed. One cannot stress enough on the fact that relevance takes a higher priority than addition of an animation or piece of music! Well, if it suits the theme of the website – go ahead! But it creates a lot of mess if you try to mix and match just all designing skills in one page! Website design is all about matching the business objectives to the design themes.
Before we get into what are the dos’ and don’ts, let’s just engrave one fact in our minds: Make your website design look as though you mean business! Let’s take a quick look at a few best practices in website design:
Keep the design simple. The very basic design rule. Simple with reference to user navigation. All clickable links / tabs must convey exactly what they can do for you. Leave very little for the users to figure out.If your website design must represent a professional organization, avoid too many flash animations or graphics. Maintain a classic color scheme. Not too dull – not too bright. However, if it is for a gaming website or something that spells “fun” – let your imagination go wild! Background and text contrast – do not let your text get lost amidst the textured background. Customers need to read the text! (Background is an add-on)!Illustrations via graphics, maps, – yes – go ahead!Heading and main text separators – use bold, Italics – avoid blinking text – it’s annoying for someone who is looking for important information!Pop ups – a total no-no! The last thing a viewer wants is some ad or graphic popping up while they are getting interested in the website content. Very naturally irritated they will click on the red X, and there goes your prospective customer – straight to your competitor! (more…)

Most of us have been aware of the little pop up box on the task bar of our PC, which states rather bluntly, that there are “Updates Available” for our computer. Some will click on Approve/Install, while others will simply ignore the pop-up indefinitely. But, make no mistake; there is a good reason why your computer tells you that there are updates available.
Windows Update is a service provided by Microsoft that provides updates for all the existing Microsoft Windows Operating Systems currently being supported (an older OS may not have active patches being created for it).
On top of the Windows Update there is also a service known as Microsoft Update, which is a wholly expanded version of the Windows Update service providing updates and patches not just for the operating system and Internet Explorer, but also for other Microsoft software running under Windows including program suites such as Microsoft Office, Windows Live, and Microsoft Expression Studio.
Collectively the management of these various update patches is known as Patch Management. These updates are important as there are always improvements to the software’s base reliability, performance and security that need to be addressed. (more…)
